ProtonMail

ProtonMail is an integrated Module (data source) in UserSearch. When you run an Email search, this Module probes an address against Proton’s mail infrastructure to confirm whether it is a ProtonMail account and to surface a small set of account metadata. It appears in your results attributed to ProtonMail in the Data Source column.

Proton (the operator of ProtonMail) is an end-to-end-encrypted email service based in Switzerland. The ProtonMail Module does not read or decrypt any mailbox content — it works only with what is observable about the account from the outside.

What it is

ProtonMail is a privacy-focused email provider. Inside UserSearch, the ProtonMail Module treats a Proton address as a lookup target: you supply an email address, and the Module reports whether that address exists on ProtonMail plus any account metadata it can resolve. It is a passive check — you are querying public-facing account state, not sending mail or interacting with the account holder.

What data it returns

For a given email address, the ProtonMail Module can return:

• ProtonMail confirmation — whether the address is a valid ProtonMail account.
• Creation date — when the account was created, where available.
• Forwarding email — a linked forwarding address, surfaced in some cases.

The creation date and forwarding email fields, and the exact conditions under which each is returned, are documented from product copy and have not yet been independently confirmed. In particular, how the forwarding email is obtained, how often it is present, and the freshness of the creation-date value are still to be verified. Treat these specifics as provisional.

Which search types and Modules use it

The ProtonMail Module powers the following UserSearch search type:

• Email — as a single data source, and as one of the sources that OneScan can run when you scan an email address across several Modules at once.

How to access it in UserSearch

1. Start a new search and choose the Email search type.
2. Enter the email address you want to check.
3. In the Choose Data Source step, select ProtonMail (or select OneScan to run ProtonMail alongside the other enabled email Modules in one pass).
4. Run the search. Rows produced by this Module are labelled ProtonMail in the Data Source column of your results.

The ProtonMail Module is best treated as a confirmation-and-metadata check rather than a full profile source. A positive result is a strong signal that an address is a live ProtonMail account, but the presence and accuracy of the creation date and forwarding email fields vary and await confirmation. Corroborate any metadata against other Email-search Modules before relying on it, and record the ProtonMail attribution shown in your results.
