Google Lens
Google Lens is an integrated data source (a Module) in UserSearch. It performs visual and reverse image search: you start from a picture rather than text, and it returns visually similar images, the pages that host them, and recognisable objects, places or products within the frame. In UserSearch, Google Lens is one of the data sources behind the Picture search type.

What Google Lens is
Section titled “What Google Lens is”Google Lens matches an image against Google’s index of pictures found across the web. Instead of describing what you are looking for in words, you supply the image itself, and Lens works outward from it — identifying near-duplicate and visually similar images, the web pages those images appear on, and distinct elements it can recognise inside the picture (objects, text, landmarks, products). That makes it the reference source when your starting point is a photo or graphic and you want to know where else it appears online or what it depicts.
What it returns
Section titled “What it returns”When you run a Picture search through Google Lens, it supplies image-derived results such as:
- Visually similar images found across Google’s index
- Source pages that host matching or similar images
- Recognised objects and subjects detected within the image
- Text, landmarks and products identified in the frame where present
Which UserSearch search types use it
Section titled “Which UserSearch search types use it”Google Lens powers the Picture search type, where it appears as the reverse image search Module. You select it when your input is an image and your goal is to find where that image — or one like it — appears elsewhere on the web.
The Picture search type also includes other Modules that serve different goals (for example image manipulation checks), so Google Lens is one option within Picture rather than the whole search type. Switching Modules changes both the task and the underlying data source.
